The South Peninsula Area Republican Coalition (SPARC) January dinner meeting will feature retired naval officer, politico-military specialist and public servant Rear Admiral John Bitoff, U.S. Navy (Retired). In addition to his many military accomplishments, the Admiral directed the Navy’s rescue and recovery efforts in the wake of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. This highly praised effort consisted of rescue operations, medical and firefighting assistance, air resupply to isolated areas, restoration of electrical power, housing the earthquake victims, road clearing and other civil engineering projects. His topic will be “Restoring Civility to Our Public Debate.”
