Ensuring our children receive a quality education is an important priority for Seate and Assembly Republicans. We are fighting to provide a stable and reliable level of funding for our classrooms and reform the system so school districts can stretch their dollars further.
With California facing a $16 billion deficit that is growing larger by the day, schools across our state are facing a great deal of budget uncertainty. Districts now are being forced to make critical decisions about next year's budget but have no idea how much money they will receive from Sacramento. Without stable funding, many schools have issued layoff notices because they don't know if they will be able to retain many of their newest teachers.
Republicans want to take immediate action to give local districts the answers they are looking for regarding next year's school funding. There is no doubt that the longer lawmakers put off making budget choices, the more serious the consequences.
Unfortunately, the solutions put forward by Democrats in the Legislature are the same for every budget problem - raise taxes. This is not leadership, it's abdication.
We know there are better ways to protect classroom funding without punishing Californians with higher taxes. Senate and Assembly Republicans have proposed our own education budget to give schools certainty in these tough budget times. We have also reached out to the education community to get suggestions on how to reform the system. >>READ MORE |
