AB 1987 - Adam's Law:Child abuse should not be tolerated. This bill, based on the case of Adam Carbajal of Fresno, will create harsher penalties for anyone who abuses a child under the age of 8 and causes permanent injury or disability to the child. Currently, a child abuser who causes permanent injury or disability to a child can only be sentenced to 2, 4 or 6 years in prison, which would be the same punishment if the abuser had broken the child's arm. The increased punishment will carry a 15 year to life sentence.
AB 2246 - Charter School Funding:Charter Schools are an important part of our community. This bill will allow Clovis charter school -The Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART) - to retain its funding from the state.
AB 2406 - Reading By Third Grade: There is a strong correlation between children not reading at grade level by third grade and high school drop out rates. This bill requires that schools include on the third grade and fifth grade report cards a notice of whether the student is reading at grade level. For students who are not reading at grade level, the report card would include a notice of resources available to help the student and family.
AB 3008 -Mandate Relief: During this budget crisis, this bill will help schools by temporarily suspending mandates that the Legislature has failed to fund. Schools should not have to implement costly mandates when the Legislature fails take the necessary action to pay or reimburse them for their compliance.
AB 2114 - Single Sales Factor:California should be working to attract more business to our state. This bill will change the equation by which California-based corporations are taxed to give companies incentive to be located in California, bringing more jobs to our and state and benefiting our economy.
