GOVERNOR'S VETO OF IRAQ WAR BALLOT MEASURE

(SACRAMENTO) - CRP Chairman Ron Nehring released the following statement today praising Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on his veto of the Iraq War ballot measure.

"Governor Schwarzenegger is to be commended for vetoing the Iraq War ballot measure.  The notion of having a state referendum on the conflict in Iraq was not a serious proposal to advance American foreign policy, defense, or security interests.  It was a political stunt that threatened to produce a divisive, unproductive campaign without any tangible benefit to America or our men and women in uniform.  Governor Schwarzenegger was right to veto this misguided proposal.  His action will allow more serious proposals for victory in Iraq to be deliberated in Washington and in the public square.
