DEMOCRATS SHOULD STOP IGNORING THE NATION'S NEEDS
Opinion By CRP Chairman, Ron Nehring
(Sacramento, CA) - Ron Nehring, Chairman of the California Republican Party, today challenged Jerry McNerney (CA-11) and his fellow Democrats, who are home on a week-long break, to abandon partisan politics and work to pass real legislation for the American people upon their return to Washington.
"Jerry McNerney and his fellow Democrats in the House have spent the last six months going from one partisan attack to another while ignoring the real issues facing our country," Nehring said. "The American people are making their opinions clear and the Democrats' partisan attacks are backfiring. The long list of broken promises of this Democrat-led Congress has led to the lowest ratings in the history of congressional polls."
Since taking control of Congress in January, Democrats have worked overtime to appease their liberal constituencies, while ignoring the needs of our nation.
Democrats:
- Tried to force an early retreat from Iraq and delayed funding for our troops, with Harry Reid gleefully predicting that Democrats were "going to pick up Senate seats as a result of this war."
- Passed a budget that would cost $2.9 trillion - and would raise taxes by $400 billion.
- Tried to repeal Republican earmark reforms, announcing that earmarks would be added to spending bills at the very end of the budget process, long after any opportunity to debate or vote on them had passed.
- Sought to install Congressman William Jefferson on the sensitive Homeland Security Committee after Mr. Jefferson's former aide pleaded guilty to bribing him and after $90,000 in cash was found his freezer.
"Despite the lowest ratings in history, Washington Democrats still haven't learned their lesson," Nehring added. "Rather than try to pass substantive legislation, they tried to abolish the secret ballot so their Big Labor allies can collect more union dues. Now they're trying to pass legislation to limit debate on talk radio. These Democrats will do anything to stay in power, except offer real solutions to the challenges facing our nation."
