About Frank Chavez

Originally from Harlingen, Texas, Frank Chavez, 60, and his family first came to San Jose in 1957 as migrant workers and worked throughout the Santa Clara Valley, then known for its lush orchards and productive farmland. Frank decided to stay in San Jose permanently ten years later and was soon drafted into the United States Army, serving in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. 

After several years working in downtown San Jose after returning from Vietnam, Frank started a jewelry design business on Alum Rock Avenue in 1982. He became a certified Goldsmith and member of the California Jewelers Association. He also became a Co-Founder of the AGRUPACION DE COMERCIANTES UNIDOS to fill a void that was not being addressed by the Mexican-American Chamber of Commerce.

Frank is the former President and current Vice President of the Story Road Business Association and is President of the Board of Trustees of the Alum Rock Union Elementary School District. He is a Member of the Mayor's General Plan Task Force, Commander of the San Jose GI Forum East Valley Chapter, and Neighborhood Advisory Committee Member of the East Valley/680 and the KONA Strong Neighborhoods Initiative ( SNI ).

In 2003, Frank served as Co-Founder of the Tropicana Merchants Association and successfully led the campaign to stop the takeover of Tropicana Shopping Center by eminent domain by the San Jose Redevelopment Agency.

Frank has been married for 28 years to his lovely wife Linda and has three sons and one daughter.
